King's Landing is the seat of the royal house, and the capital of the Crownlands and the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Built three hundred years ago by Aegon the Conqueror to celebrate his victory in uniting the seven kingdoms, he converted the Aegonfort into a fully fledged city, named "King's Landing" because it was where he first landed when he arrived at Westeros. It is situated along the kingsroad, at the mouth of the Blackwater Rush and overlooks Blackwater Bay, and is also the location of the Iron Throne and the Red Keep, which is the seat of the presiding royal family ruling over Westeros at any given reign. It was sacked by the Lannisters during Robert's Rebellion, and was later besieged by the Baratheons during the War of the Five Kings. In the show, it remains under the rule of House Baratheon. In the books, it is now firmly under Lannister control following the destruction of Baelon's sept.
